Aberdeen Foyer Celebrates 30 Years of Impact

This year marks a special milestone for Aberdeen Foyer – 30 years of walking alongside people across the North East, supporting them to build the lives they want to lead. From our beginnings in 1995 responding to youth homelessness, to the diverse, wraparound support we provide today, our mission has remained the same: to support people to discover their potential, overcome challenges, and thrive.

Aberdeen Foyer was founded on the belief that every person deserves a safe place to live, someone who believes in them, and access to opportunities. Over the last three decades, thousands of people have come through our doors – many at a crossroads in life – and found a community that sees their strengths, not just their struggles.

We’re proud to have grown from one supported accommodation site into a dynamic organisation offering housing, learning, counselling, health and wellbeing and employability opportunities. Our work is underpinned by trauma-informed practice and our Advantage Thinking approach, which focuses on people’s talents, aspirations, and the assets they bring.

Our work is shaped by the young people, adults and families we support. Their voices, choices, and leadership are at the heart of everything we do and continue to shape and influence how we develop.

Looking Back, Moving Forward

Over the last 30 years, we’ve evolved in response to changing needs – always listening, always learning. We’ve stood alongside people through complex times: from the long-term impacts of poverty and inequality to the more recent challenges of the pandemic and cost-of-living crisis.

We’ve learned that early support matters. That safe, trusted relationships change lives. And that when people are met with belief and opportunity, there is no limit to what they can achieve.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to working in partnership, removing barriers, and creating spaces where people feel safe, included, and able to grow.

A Thank You

We could not have done this alone. To every young person, tenant, learner, programme participant, colleague, volunteer, funder, partner, politician, employer and community member who has been part of our journey – thank you. Your courage, passion, and belief in better futures continue to inspire us.

Here’s to the next chapter – with people, place, and purpose at the heart of everything we do.

Celebrating 30 years - putting the right support in the right place at the right time.
