Transforming Lives Through Learning
Foyer Learning
Aberdeen Foyer’s Learning Team has been supporting young people and adults for over 20 years, helping learners build confidence, develop new skills and feel more connected to their community.
Across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, we deliver three personal development and employability programmes:
The King’s Trust Team Programme, formerly known as The Prince’s Trust Team Programme
The REACH Pathway
Foyer Families
Working in partnership with The King’s Trust Scotland and NESCol, our programmes support learners aged 16 to 67 to take positive steps towards employment, training, volunteering or further learning.
Through our programmes, learners can gain recognised qualifications, take part in community projects, build confidence and develop skills for work, learning and life.
The Beginning
In the early 2000s, Aberdeen Foyer’s Learning Team was created with a clear vision: to break down barriers to education and create pathways to success.
Rooted in the local community, the team recognised the need for inclusive learning opportunities that could transform lives. From the very beginning, our focus was on empowering individuals, building confidence and helping people feel more connected to their community.
Our first programme, The Prince’s Trust Team Programme, was delivered from our base at Marywell Street in partnership with NESCol and Prince’s Trust Scotland.
More than 20 years later, we continue to deliver the Team Programme from our Marywell Centre in Aberdeen, providing consistency, opportunity and support for young people aged 16 to 25.
Our Evolution
Over the past 20 years, Aberdeen Foyer’s Learning Team has continued to grow and adapt, shaping our programmes around the changing needs of young people, adults and the wider community.
What began with one programme has developed into a wider learning offer, supporting people at different stages of their journey. Our programmes are designed to build confidence, develop personal and employability skills, improve wellbeing and help learners take positive steps forward.
Through our learning programmes, participants can take part in group activities, community projects, wellbeing sessions, employability learning and accredited courses. These opportunities help learners develop skills for work, learning and life, while feeling more connected to their community.
We continue to work with partners, including The King’s Trust Scotland and NESCol, to provide meaningful learning opportunities that support people to move towards employment, training, volunteering or further learning.
Partnerships for Progress
Partnership working is central to the success of Aberdeen Foyer’s Learning Team. Over the years, we have built strong relationships with partners including NESCol, The King’s Trust Scotland, Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council and a wide range of local organisations.
These partnerships help us strengthen our programmes, reach more people and create opportunities that support lasting change.
Our partnership with NESCol enables us to offer accredited learning opportunities, giving learners the chance to gain recognised qualifications that can support their next steps into employment, training, volunteering or further learning.
Through our work with The King’s Trust Scotland, we continue to deliver the Team Programme for young people aged 16 to 25. This structured programme supports personal development, confidence building, teamwork and employability skills, helping young people move towards greater independence and positive futures.
With learning opportunities delivered across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, we are rooted in the communities we serve. Our programmes are designed to be accessible, supportive and inclusive, helping learners access the right opportunity at the right time, wherever they are on their journey.
What Our Learners Say
“I am more confident, and my mental health has got better. I have come out of my shell a lot, and I have made friends that I know I can speak to if I need it.”
“I’ve met such wonderful people and gained knowledge and experience in different work placements. They’ve given me great opportunities and insight that I wouldn’t have had otherwise. I can confidently say I was given more than I had thought or hoped for.”
“Foyer Families was a life changing experience. I enjoyed learning and meeting new people.”
“She has come on so well. We were worried about her going back to college, but we think that she will have no bother now. She has become a completely different person. Thank you so much.” - Feedback from a learner’s social worker
