FOYER EVENT TO MARK SCOTTISH APPRENTICESHIP WEEK 2018

Celebrating the benefits apprenticeships bring to businesses, individuals and the economy.

On Friday 9 March the Foyer held 2 open days, one in Aberdeen and one in Peterhead, to promote Modern Apprenticeships which are supported by Skills Development Scotland. The events marked Scottish Apprenticeship Week (5-9 March), a nationwide campaign aimed at encouraging more employers to take on apprentices and show their success of people who have chosen work-based learning to become qualified to develop their careers.

At the Foyer open days employers and individuals met staff to learn more about the types of apprenticeships the Foyer offers to develop employees in sectors such as business administration, management, retail, manufacturing, customer service and hospitality.

The Foyer has been working since July 2017 with staff at local catering and hospitality organisation, Entier, to deliver Modern Apprenticeships.

Entier employee Morven McLean said, “I am currently undertaking an MA in Management (SCQF Level 7). I am thoroughly enjoying this especially the flexibility to be able to fit it in around my daily working life. It is helping me to focus on my work and the modules on offer are really relevant to my role. I find taking part is really helping in my personal development and I am looking forward to progressing further in the future.”

Receptionist Anna added, “Starting my MA in Business and Administration has helped me improve my working ways in the business. Seeing as one of my units is reception based, and I work at Reception, it has helped me to be more thorough with my everyday tasks and has generally boosted my confidence, as I knew that I had to do more work on in order to improve.”

Lesley Officer, Director of HR at Entier said, “As a recognised Employer of Choice, Entier is committed to providing our people with the highest standard of training and development opportunities in our sector in order to maintain our exemplary retention rates.

We are very proud to have created our ‘Fresh Olive’ Apprenticeship Programme.  With it being Modern Apprentice Week, it is the perfect opportunity to educate everyone about the opportunities available not just within Entier, but in the Food and Drink sector for young people.

‘Fresh Olive’ currently has 15 apprentices. We are very proud at the progress they are making and the impact our young people are having on our business. ‘Fresh Olive’ is, and will continue to be, a credible pipeline creating our leaders of tomorrow.”

Ken Milroy, Foyer Chief Executive concluded, “Ken Milroy, Foyer Chief Executive concluded, “It's been a rewarding experience for us to be working with such a prominent company and see young people progress their careers through work based training. A great example I hope others will follow."
