build and train

Build & Train is a programme that will offer New Deal participants the chance to achieve job aspirations within the construction industry. The programme has been designed to meet the needs of employers within the construction industry whilst supporting participants through training and for the early stages of employment.

This programme will be available to all New Deal clients throughout Grampian who have expressed a serious interest in working in the construction industry as a General Building Operative (GBO). The programme will run throughout the year and will consist of the following elements;-

  • A week long structured course covering aspects of  working within the Building Industry including input from  employers.
  • During the 1st week participants will receive  instruction on use of Stihl saw, manual handling and training on health &  safety which will culminate with the opportunity to take the CSCS  (Construction Skills Certificate Scheme) health & safety touch screen  test.
  • Basic PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) will be  provided where necessary.
  • A 12 week work experience period on a building site  where participants will receive on site training.
  • Wherever possible, Full Time Employment after  completion of training.
  • On-going support for/mentoring of individuals once  they have moved into employment for a period of 12  weeks.
